Hurrah for them! Quite a few, but maybe not precisely where you want to live. Well, the second rank are the states with 70 mph limits - the same as in the UK. There are quite a number giving you more variety: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and West Virginia. Thats 33 of the US states allow you to drive at 70 mph or higher.

Maybe those places dont appeal, and I must admit that the circumstances could undoubtedly change as oil becomes scarcer and more costly - expect that to happen soon. Remember, it was the first energy crisis that brought blanket speed limits on freeways and expressways and motorways in the first place. In the UK the administration said the limit of 70 mph was provisional. Now, with cars being so much safer than they were then it is clear that limit, and the old 55 mph limit in the USA is well out of date.

Owning a radar detector is a great way to help you stand by the law. Radar detectors are very efficient for warning you that you are approaching a speed detection device. The detector will make a noise or flash lights when it senses an inward signal on specific frequencies. All radar detectors are able to detect police radar.

Before you decide to buy a radar detector, it is imperative to check whether radar detectors are against the law in your area. They are at this time against the law in passenger vehicles in Virginia and Washington, DC.

Avoid costly speeding tickets with a radar detector. You should also reconsider your driving habits to try and avoid the need for having a radar detector at all.

The counter-argument to those who support use of the radar detector is simple. The anti-radar detector group thought that motorists who use radar detectors pose a larger danger on the road than those who do not use them. At first look, you may be inclined to agree with the anti-radar detector group just because those using radar detectors would be more likely to drive quicker, consequently escalating the danger of accident.

However, the 2001 Mori Report tells us that those drivers using a radar detector in reality pose 28% less risk than those who do not use them. Fascinatingly, this may point to the fact that those drivers who drive at or under the speed limit pose as great of a risk of accident, if not more, than those who drive over the speed limit.

You should always try and ascertain whether a radar detector is legal where you live, and if not, consider your actions carefully.

My radar detector Reviews

Unfortunately, speed cameras are not always about being safe. So even as you may be completely safe driving down an bare motorway at eighty miles an hour, this does not mean that you will avoid the concealed camera.

As a result, many motorists are opting to fight speed cameras with machinery, that is to say speed camera detectors.

No radar detector would be necessary yet, if you drove inside the speed boundary. Sadly, there are always some law enforcement officers who see speeding tickets not as a safety check, but as a tax raiser.

It you have been driving for any length of time, you most surely have come across one or more occasions where you were caught speeding. It is always a disagreeable experience to be pulled over by a law enforcement officer and to be handed a speeding ticket.

A radar detector can help you avoid costly speeding tickets. But first, consider your driving habits and try and avoid the necessity for having one at all.

A radar detector can be purchased without difficulty online, but, a neighborhood car audio store should be able to tell you of state laws that might restrict purchasing options. Whatever your choice, remember that a radar detector does not give anybody authorization to drive irresponsibly, and by doing so, put other peoples lives in danger.

You should always try and determine whether a radar detector is officially permitted where you live, and if not, consider your actions circumspectly.

Another critical attribute on a radar detector is how efficient the warning is when a signal is picked up. The display should be simple to read, in daytime or at nighttime. Radar detectors often use LED but others use LCD displays. New buyers should determine which type of display best meets their individual requirements. For example, some rather a text display but others feel the LCD display is difficult to see in the sunlight.

Some displays do a better job of demonstrating how strong a signal is so that the driver knows whether or not the danger of being detected is impending. Clearly, having both a visual and audio alarm is imperative as a visual only warning could be missed.

You should always try and establish whether a radar detector is legal where you live, and if not, consider your actions carefully.

A radar detector is an electronic device used by motorists to determine if their speed is being monitored. The term originates from early speed-detection technologies, in which police bounced a radio wave off a moving motor vehicle with a device called a radar gun that calculated the vehicles speed by the Doppler-effect-moderated change in the waves frequency.

Avoid costly speeding tickets with a radar detector. You should also reconsider your driving habits to try and avoid the need for having a radar detector at all.

Radar detectors are permissible in England but the law differs all-around the world. The sale, acquisition and putting in place of Snooper or Radarscout products is absolutely lawful. The use of one until lately may have contravened the 1949 Wireless and Telegraphy Act but a judgement of the Queens Bench Divisional Court dated 29th January 1998 makes it clear that the use of Radar Detectors is not illegal as has up till now been claimed by some.

In the past a few prosecutions have been brought by claiming the use of radar detectors was contrary to section 5(b)(i) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 as amended by section 3 of the Post Office Act 1969. On the other hand the Acts refer to the interception of wireless communications for the reason of obtaining information as to the matter, dispatcher or receiver of any message. The Court concluded that the radar transmission was not communicating a message and consequently apparatus intended to discover the presence of the transmission could not decipher any such communication. It was further confirmed that section 1(1) of the Act, which requires a licence for the reception of radio signals, has been superseded by the Wireless Telegraphy Apparatus (Receivers)(Exemption) Regulations (SI 1989 No123) which exempts radar detectors and similar tools from the need for such licences. This case is reported in The Times on Feb 18, 1998, page 41 under the heading 'Radar speed guns do not send message'.

A radar detector can help you avoid expensive speeding tickets. But first, consider your driving habits and try and get around the necessity for having one at all.

If you are contemplating the purchase of an active radar jammer for your car, you should know that they are against the law and have been barred by the federal government since December of 1977. The FCC has forbidden the use and the sale of these devices and the consequences for continually and willfully using them can be extreme. Per the FCC, you could be fined as much as $11,000 per infringement (with a maximum sum of $75,000) and you could be sent to jail.
